Shenley And Loughton Toxophilists

Welcome to the Shenley And Loughton Toxophilists (SALT) website.

We are a Target Archery club based in the heart of the new city of Milton Keynes.

Founded in 1995, we are a relatively young Archery club but one of the fastest growing in the region, with currently over 50 members including 20 juniors. The club has taken it's name from the original surrounding villages of Shenley and Loughton. And the word Toxophilist (Toxophilite) means devotee of archery.

We are fortunate to have excellent shooting facilities all year round at Shenley Leisure Centre. During our outdoor season which runs from April - October, we shoot on the very large sports field behind the tennis courts. The club meets on Sunday mornings but members have almost unlimited access to the field on evenings and at weekends. During our indoor season from October - April, we shoot on Sunday afternoon in the large main sports hall in the leisure centre.

Archery is a sport for all, and SALT has members of all abilities from casual shooters through to more serious tournament archers. Members predominantly shoot Recurve bows, but we also have keen Compound and Longbow archers.

SALT has within its membership four coaches, all certified by the Grand National Archery Society (GNAS), the governing body of Archery in the UK.

The sport of Archery in the UK is regulated by the Grand National Archery Society (GNAS). The GNAS is divided into Regional and County associations each having their own organisational bodies affiliated to it. Any Archery club affiliated to the GNAS. is then registered within this framework and will operate only within it's established and proven system of shooting regulations, and also conditions of insurance within a club environment, practice and in competition. Because of this, Archery is a very safe sport.
